Keep up with all the project updates! View online

Dear readers,

Welcome to the third edition of the BuildON newsletter!

Since our last update, we’ve made significant progress at each of our pilot sites—deepening our understanding of their unique contexts and identifying how we can tailor the BuildON solution to meet local needs. These insights have directly shaped the evolution of our core technologies.

At the heart of this development is the Smart Transformer Toolbox, a key component of our integrated solution. We invite you to explore how this toolbox is bringing intelligence and adaptability to building renovations in our recent feature on the BUILD UP portal.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to continue showcasing smart, sustainable renovation in action. You can catch up with our team and learn more about our work at this year’s European Sustainable Energy Week and in our upcoming joint event with SMARTeeSTORY and REN+HOMES.

Warm regards,

Sofia Mulero Palencia, CARTIF, BuildON coordinator

The first pilot is a residential building composed of 14 floors, plus 4 dwellings on each floor. It was built on the 1960s and renovated in 2018 in the context of the REMOURBAN project. The climate zone of Valladolid is a typical Mediterranean climate, with warm and dry summers (Mediterranean warm/cool summer climates, Csb).

SMART ENERGY CLUSTER

#SmartEnergyCluster is a collaborative effort of more than 20 EU projects focused on merging different energy services and incorporating non-energy benefits whilst overcoming market fragmentation and fostering cooperation. This inclusive approach bridges gaps and creates a common ground for business development across different segments.

SMARTeeSTORY

SMARTeeSTORY develops a smart and integrated building automation and control system to monitor and optimise the buildings’ energy performance. By combining interoperable and cybersecure-by-design software and hardware solutions, the project accelerates the green transition of historical buildings while respecting their unique identities.

DigiBUILD

Traditional silo approaches, where stakeholders manage their own data, could be replaced by digital and smart buildings, merging heterogeneous data sources, and placing the stakeholders as the core of these buildings. DigiBUILD will catalyse this much-needed transformation by making use of high-quality data and next generation digital building services, supporting the deployment of EU-wide Framework for a Digital Building Logbook.

REN+HOMES

As the urgency to combat climate change intensifies, REN+HOMES takes the lead in developing a universal methodology for positive energy homes and residential districts. This approach addresses the crucial role that buildings play in energy consumption and carbon emissions. Due to the significant impact of buildings on emissions, there is an increasing focus on positive energy buildings (PEBs).

DEDALUS

DEDALUS aims to empower residential consumers to engage in adaptable, tech-driven energy management solutions. The DEDALUS project combines leading-edge ICT technologies with social and behavioral dimensions, and with a sharing economy and value-stacking governance and business models.

BUILT4PEOPLE

B4P is a European partnership under Horizon Europe which brings together the whole value chain to accelerate people-centric innovation for a sustainable built environment. The partnership aims to catalyse the transition to a people-centric, climate-neutral, sustainable and smart built environment.
