The workshop “Smart Readiness in Action: Unlocking Energy Efficiency and Comfort in Buildings” gathered experts, researchers, and industry professionals to discuss how the Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) is driving smarter, more efficient, and more resilient buildings across Europe.
The event unfolded around three core themes:
- SRI in the Operative – Tools and Methodologies – how digital innovation is making the SRI measurable and actionable;
- Demonstrations in Practice – lessons learned from real-world implementation;
- Beyond Energy – exploring how SRI supports resilience and occupant comfort.
During the first thematic session, Giannis Papis from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), partner of the BuildON project, introduced the SMURF Assessment & Decision Support Tool — a digital solution expanding the capabilities of the SRI Calculator. The tool allows users to set specific SRI targets, identify cost-effective upgrade paths, and simulate smart improvement scenarios grounded in real market data.
The SMURF Tool combines two modules — SRI Assessment and Decision Support — to provide a scenario-based, data-driven approach that has been validated in five pilot buildings. It empowers building owners to plan smarter upgrades with minimal intervention and tangible sustainability gains.
The workshop demonstrated how the growing SRI ecosystem, powered by innovation and collaboration, is helping Europe advance toward smarter, greener, and people-centered buildings.
