Representatives from BuildON recently attended a workshop co-organized with the fellow projects MODERATE, DigiBUILD, and DEDALUS during the Sustainable Places event held in Luxembourg, in the framework of Sustainable Places Conference.
The workshop, titled “Data-Driven Smart Buildings“, focused on innovative approaches to integrating data into building management systems and featured many discussions about how to improve smart building technologies based on data models and interoperability, and data-driven services.
The session was structured in three parts:
-the first focused on the use of ontological frameworks to standardise and improve the integration of building data into heterogeneous systems, in order to increase building management in areas such as energy efficiency, maintenance or occupant comfort;
-in the second part of the workshop, projects demonstrated how they are using advanced technologies such as IoT, machine learning and data analytics to develop smarter building management systems. This session highlighted how these technologies optimise energy use and improve the occupant experience, with each project presenting their specific innovations. For example, BuildON presented its semantics-based architecture, while DEDALUS showcased its AI-enhanced energy services, illustrating their practical applications in improving energy efficiency and operational effectiveness;
-the third part of the session featured a panel discussion where project representatives exchanged views on the future of smart buildings from a data-driven perspective. They discussed their respective contributions to building a cohesive ecosystem that not only focuses on sustainability and cost-effectiveness, but also meets the evolving needs of building occupants. This discussion highlighted ongoing efforts to integrate cutting-edge technologies and data-driven insights to create smart and adaptive building environments.
BuildON was represented by both UCL and CARTIF and it was a successfull occasion of exchange for the four projects involved.
