Watch the video interview with Christos Papadoupolous
A new video interview from the BuildOn project turns the spotlight on the Greek pilot, managed by Cordia across two commercial buildings: the offices of the Campari industrial facility in Volos and the Volvo car dealership in Athens. The two sites were chosen because they represent distinct types of non-residential buildings, each with its own operational profile, occupancy pattern and energy demand.
At both, a comprehensive set of technologies is being deployed to move the buildings towards a fully digitalised, data-driven environment. At its core is an integrated IoT infrastructure — environmental sensors, energy meters, smart controllers and software platforms — that continuously tracks indoor conditions such as temperature, humidity, CO₂ and lighting, alongside detailed electricity consumption.
For those running the sites day-to-day, this marks a clear change in how a building is managed, as the interview explains:
“For a building manager, the most significant change is the shift from reactive to data-driven, proactive management. Through the IoT platform, they gain full visibility of building performance in real time, allowing them to monitor energy flows, detect anomalies and fine-tune how systems operate.”
Combined with automation that cuts the need for manual intervention, this makes facility management more efficient. The benefits also reach the people working inside: in the Campari offices, continuously regulating temperature, ventilation and air quality means a more comfortable and healthier workspace, raising both the operational efficiency of the buildings and the everyday experience of those who use them.
